We are deeply committed to providing our community with authentic Islamic knowledge grounded in the traditional orthodoxy of the Ahl al-Sunnah wal-Jama'ah. To ensure the highest standard of guidance and education, TCIC actively builds bridges and connects with respected, traditional regional scholars across Michigan and the Midwest.
Through these scholarly connections, we aim to foster a community that is both rooted in timeless tradition and thoughtfully engaged with our contemporary environment.

What Is Islam?
Islam is a way of worshiping God, living with purpose, and cultivating excellence in character. The Hadith of Gabriel summarizes the religion through three inseparable dimensions: Islam, Iman, and Ihsan.
The Hadith of Gabriel
عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: بَيْنَمَا نَحْنُ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ إِذْ طَلَعَ عَلَيْنَا رَجُلٌ شَدِيدُ بَيَاضِ الثِّيَابِ، شَدِيدُ سَوَادِ الشَّعَرِ، لَا يُرَى عَلَيْهِ أَثَرُ السَّفَرِ، وَلَا يَعْرِفُهُ مِنَّا أَحَدٌ، حَتَّى جَلَسَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَأَسْنَدَ رُكْبَتَيْهِ إِلَى رُكْبَتَيْهِ، وَوَضَعَ كَفَّيْهِ عَلَى فَخِذَيْهِ، وَقَالَ: يَا مُحَمَّدُ، أَخْبِرْنِي عَنِ الْإِسْلَامِ. فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: الْإِسْلَامُ أَنْ تَشْهَدَ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ، وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ، وَتُقِيمَ الصَّلَاةَ، وَتُؤْتِيَ الزَّكَاةَ، وَتَصُومَ رَمَضَانَ، وَتَحُجَّ الْبَيْتَ إِنِ اسْتَطَعْتَ إِلَيْهِ سَبِيلًا. قَالَ: صَدَقْتَ. قَالَ: فَعَجِبْنَا لَهُ يَسْأَلُهُ وَيُصَدِّقُهُ. قَالَ: فَأَخْبِرْنِي عَنِ الْإِيمَانِ. قَالَ: أَنْ تُؤْمِنَ بِاللَّهِ، وَمَلَائِكَتِهِ، وَكُتُبِهِ، وَرُسُلِهِ، وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ، وَتُؤْمِنَ بِالْقَدَرِ خَيْرِهِ وَشَرِّهِ. قَالَ: صَدَقْتَ. قَالَ: فَأَخْبِرْنِي عَنِ الْإِحْسَانِ. قَالَ: أَنْ تَعْبُدَ اللَّهَ كَأَنَّكَ تَرَاهُ، فَإِنْ لَمْ تَكُنْ تَرَاهُ فَإِنَّهُ يَرَاكَ.
ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb (may Allah ﷻ be pleased with him) said: One day, while we were sitting with the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, a man appeared before us. His clothes were intensely white and his hair intensely black. No sign of travel could be seen on him, and none of us knew him. He came and sat before the Prophet ﷺ, placed his knees against the Prophet’s knees and his hands upon his thighs, and said: “Muhammad ﷺ, tell me about Islam.”
The Prophet ﷺ said: “Islam is that you bear witness that there is no god worthy of worship except Allah ﷻ and that Muhammad ﷺ is the Messenger of Allah ﷻ; that you establish the prayer, give zakat, fast Ramadan, and make pilgrimage to the House if you are able to find a way to it.” The man said: “You have spoken truly.” We were amazed that he asked the question and then affirmed the answer.
He said: “Then tell me about Iman.” The Prophet ﷺ said: “It is that you believe in Allah ﷻ, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Last Day, and the divine decree—its good and its difficult.” The man said: “You have spoken truly.” He then said: “Tell me about Ihsan.” The Prophet ﷺ said: “It is that you worship Allah ﷻ as though you see Him; and if you do not see Him, then indeed He sees you.”

Islam
Islam is expressed through five foundational acts of worship that shape a Muslim’s daily life and relationship with God.
Shahadah · Testimony of Faith
To affirm that none is worthy of worship except Allah ﷻ and that Muhammad ﷺ is His Messenger. This testimony is the foundation of Muslim belief and life.
Salah · Prayer
Muslims perform five daily prayers at appointed times. Prayer renews awareness of God and gives the day a sacred rhythm.
Zakat · Obligatory Charity
Those who meet the required threshold give a portion of their wealth to eligible recipients. Zakat purifies wealth and strengthens responsibility toward others.
Sawm · Fasting Ramadan
During Ramadan, Muslims fast from dawn until sunset. The fast cultivates discipline, gratitude, compassion, and consciousness of God.
Hajj · Pilgrimage
Muslims who are physically and financially able make pilgrimage to the Sacred House in Makkah once in their lifetime. Hajj gathers believers in worship, humility, and unity.
Iman
Iman is the inward faith that anchors a Muslim’s understanding of God, revelation, human purpose, and the life to come.
Belief in Allah ﷻ
Allah ﷻ is the One, unique Creator and Sustainer, without partner or equal. Worship belongs to Him alone.
Belief in the Angels
Angels are honored servants of God who faithfully carry out His commands. Among their duties are conveying revelation and recording human deeds.
Belief in the Revealed Books
God sent revelation as guidance through His prophets. Muslims affirm the original revelations and the Qur’an as the final revealed scripture.
Belief in the Messengers
God sent prophets and messengers to guide humanity, from Adam through the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Peace be upon them all. Their essential call was to worship God and live righteously.
Belief in the Last Day
Human life continues beyond death through resurrection and judgment. Every person is ultimately accountable before God for what they believed and did.
Belief in Divine Decree
Everything unfolds within God’s complete knowledge and wisdom. Muslims trust His decree while remaining responsible for their intentions and choices.
Ihsan
Ihsan is spiritual excellence: to worship Allah ﷻ as though you see Him, knowing that although you do not see Him, He sees you. This awareness nurtures sincerity, beautiful character, and care in every action.
